2011 Annual Meeting money back guarantee!!

Dear SSAM Member,
It was a short four years ago that a small group of self storage owners decided that our industry needed to be represented in the political arena in Lansing. No one was watching out for our industry and businesses. Thus SSAM was formed and we now are involved in the political process. Over the last few years we have changed the Michigan Lien Law, grown our membership to over 260 members, provided legal and legislative support to our member on a daily basis, developed and monitor the association website that receives over 10,000 hits a month to those consumers looking for industry information.

The reason for this letter, as President of your association, I encourage you if you have not done so already to register for YOUR associations annual meeting that is taking place on Wednesday, October 19th at the Lexington Lansing Hotel. For a small $125.00 investment you will have the opportunity to get the necessary industry information to benefit your business. We will be having both national and state experts address the issues that are facing the industry today and tomorrow. YOU CAN NOT AFFORD TO MISS THIS IMPORTANT MEETING!

As your President I will offer you a money back guarantee. If you do not receive one good idea, gain one piece of knowledge of important information or one benefit from the networking opportunity, I will personally refund your registration fee.

To view the agenda and register for this event CLICK HERE. If you have any questions contact the association office at 1-888-308-7726.

I would like to personally thank you for your continued support to SSAM and look forward sharing this valuable information with you.

Sincerely,

Jon

Board seeks members input on Lien Act.

At the Association’s board meeting this week, the Board of Directors discussed the process of developing goals for the newly elected Board of Directors that  begin their term this July. Because of our successes in the past with the Associations legislative efforts, the board is seeking members input for the upcoming year on its legislative initiatives. They are asking the membership what the three top legislative priorities you would like the Board to tackle that would be beneficial to your business and our industry. Please feel free to drop us a note in c/o Stephanie Ford via mail to 2222 Association Drive, Okemos, MI 48864, fax to 517-349-3543 or email tosford@mmhrvca.org.
We will gather these priorities and present it to the new board at their first meeting in August.

SSA Fall Conference

SSA will Honor Associations for Legislative EffortsAt the SSA Fall Conference & Trade Show in Las Vegas this September the Association will recognize the California and Michigan Self Storage Associations, as well as Lisa Chiappetta of the Wisconsin SSA for 2009 and 2010 legislative initiatives. The California SSA has worked to improve the state's lien law. Although the improvements have yet to become law, many milestones have been achieved through the very difficult legislature in Sacramento. Should it become law, the new provision would make it more difficult for late-paying tenants or tenants who have abandoned units to stop the lien process. In cases where a "declaration to opposition" is signed, operators would be able to execute the lien through small claims court, which is less costly than the current municipal court process. Both Michigan and Wisconsin improved the notification standards during the lien processes in their states, resulting in significant savings to self storage businesses. The ceremony will take place during the SSA General Session September 1st at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas.
